Our Philosophy

We help families find the right school and service in a clear and informed manner.

Hi, I’m Jacquie.

I’m the Director of The Guided Child and a speech-language therapist with 20 years of experience in multi-disciplinary and educational settings. Most importantly, I am the mother of three beautiful children.

Each of my children have needed assistance at some point, so I have personal insight into understanding what it's like navigate schooling and support services. I have also experienced multiple international moves of my own, so I’m uniquely placed to understand the ‘big picture’ for children and families.

 Jacquie’s Story…

After over a decade of giving advice as a professional in education and multi-disciplinary settings, it was my turn to be the parent of a child who needed some help.

It was daunting… for a moment. Then I put on my professional hat and got to work.

I used my experience to find the most appropriate schools and therapists for my child’s needs. With the right professionals and placements, my child has made and continues to make strong progress, which effects every aspect of his life.

I often reflect on the journey and I feel lucky to have had the confidence and experience to find the right school and support for my child’s need. I was able to navigate the world of promises that so many schools, programs and approaches offer. It occurred to me that not every parent is lucky enough to know where to look for the right support. It can be confusing, frustrating and, at times, overwhelming.

And so… ‘The Guided Child’ was born.

WHY WAS THE GUIDED CHILD CREATED?

  • After two decades in the allied and education field, it is clear parents want help navigating and understanding their options, so they can make informed decisions for their children.

  • Just as each child is unique, each therapist is unique. Each has different specializations and different experiences. For best-practice and quality therapy, a good child–therapist match (for the child’s current need) is ideal.

  • Many parents struggle to understand the different responsibilities, skills and approaches of different experts in the field; be they therapists, educators or clinicians.

  • We have spent ten years in Singapore meeting and often working with the professionals and clinics on our database, so we know them beyond websites and reputations. Everyone we interviewed for the database has been forthcoming in their areas of strength and fields of expertise. This allows us to create targeted shortlists for a child and family’s individual needs.

WHAT WE DON’T DO:

  • The Guided Child does not give opinions or diagnose outside our formal qualification. We listen to concerns and speak with professionals that are qualified in the area of concern. We then pull together the various options, that can help parents make informed decisions.

  • We are not a medical practice. If you have medical concerns for your child, we will always advise starting with a Paediatrician.
